Why Can’t I Send a Direct Message

Trying to send a direct message but can’t find the option? Don’t worry; here’s everything you need to know about why it’s missing and how to fix it!

To prevent spam and protect our members, new accounts are limited from sending direct messages until they’ve contributed a little to the forum. Once you’ve made 15 genuine, meaningful posts, the direct message feature will unlock automatically. 

Please keep in mind that posting 'thanks' or single-word replies just to bump up your count is a fast track to getting a warning for post-count inflation. We want real conversations here to help others; ask smart questions and share your thoughts.

Once you’ve hit 15 posts, you’ll notice a gold 'Send Direct Message' button appear in your inbox (1) and also when you click another user’s name (2). On mobile devices, it might be tucked away. Try rotating your phone or switching to desktop mode for the best experience.

• You’re not seeing the DM button because you’re on a mobile
• You’re trying to DM someone who has restricted their messages
• You’re logged in with the correct account

Q: Can I reply to DMs before reaching 15 posts?

A: Yes, if someone messages you first, you can reply. But you still won’t be able to initiate a new message.

Q: I hit 15 posts, but I still can’t DM. Why?

A: Sometimes, the system takes a few minutes to update. Refresh the page or log out and back in.

Q: Can I DM staff or mods before 15 posts?

A: You can use the support desk or report feature, and a staff member will reach out.
